When we talk about alignment, we should ask what we are aligning ourselves with? Are we talking about an external shape? An internal sensation? A principle, or value?

What if alignment is a dynamic state of shifting relationships in our body? If we let go of the idea that it is a fixed set of rules, we can find different ways to orient within our experience. Then we can explore questions about how embodying our anatomy and developmental process can support communication and relationship as foundations for alignment, and for change.

In this workshop we will explore alignment principles that might arise from body systems (like our bones, or fluids, or muscles) or from developmental movement and apply those principles to movement and asana.

This workshop will involve lecture, discussion and movement explorations – no previous experience is required.

Our nervous systems play an amazing role of modulating, coordinating, and communicating among the many tissues of our body — and its role is often oversimplified in current approaches and methodologies.

In this workshop we will unpack traditional ways of dividing the system into parts (somatic, autonomic, sympathetic, parasympathetic, etc.) as well as exploring the nervous system from an experiential perspective. We’ll address terms like ‘homeostasis’ and ‘balanced tone’ and look at how we can inhabit our nervous system as a partner, collaborator and participant in a non-hierarchical perspective on our body systems.

This workshop will involve lecture, discussion and movement explorations – no previous experience is required.

BENEFITS OF PRIVATE INSTRUCTION:

Individualized Attention
Private lessons allow your instructor to get to know you and your body better so you can create a practice that is tailored to your needs, and safe for your body.

Accelerated Learning
Receiving more detailed instruction means you may “progress” at a quicker rate in whatever way that is relevant to your practice.

Adaptable for Everyone
No matter what your skill level or abilities, your instructor will adapt your private sessions to meet you where you’re at so you can get the most out of your time together.

Privacy
Sometimes, practicing with other people you don’t know can feel intimidating at first. Private sessions can help to ease you into a class setting so you feel more comfortable.

Physical Benefits for Recovery
Yoga and Pilates are great for helping with recovery from a sports injury (as long as you get clearance from your Physical Therapist and/or Doctor to add these to your routine). With the individual attention of a private session, the outcome may greatly improve how you perform in your sport or other activities.
