Holding Light in Dark Times:
Honoring Loss While Embracing Hope

In times like these, when our news feeds are filled with heartbreaking aviation tragedies, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed by grief, fear, and uncertainty. These events touch us deeply, reminding us of our shared humanity and vulnerability.

Mr. Rogers shared this profound piece of wisdom from his mother: “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” In every tragedy, there are countless acts of courage, kindness, and selfless service that remind us of humanity’s inherent goodness.

How do we honor these moments of tragedy and grief while preserving our capacity to be present and helpful?

In Compassionate Awareness: Allow yourself to feel without drowning. Acknowledge your emotions – whether fear, sadness, or anxiety – while remembering that you’re not alone in these feelings. It comes to me that tragedy serves the purpose of reminding us to soften our hearts. What is brittle breaks! and help us to strengthen our commitment to caring for one another.

Practice Mindful Engagement: Instead of compulsively checking for updates, set specific times to stay informed. Focus on verified information from reliable sources. Don’t engage in the click-bait and fake reels. Attend to your heart. Honor your need to step back and process.

Channel Empathy into Connection: Rather than feeling helpless, let these moments inspire more kindness in your daily interactions. Small acts of compassion ripple outward, helping to heal our collective trauma.

Anne Frank, the young Jewish author of “Diary of Anne Frank” who wrote while hiding from the Nazis during World War II, showed us the incredible power of hope in the darkest times when she penned: “I somehow feel that everything will change for the better, that this cruelty too shall end, that peace and tranquility will return once more.” If this remarkable young woman could maintain her belief in humanity’s goodness during one of its darkest chapters, surely, we can hold onto Hope while acknowledging today’s tragedies. May it empower us to cocreate more Light in the world.

Please remember that it is okay to take breaks from the news. It is okay to feel deeply. And it is okay to continue finding joy even as we hold space for grief. As a matter of fact, it is necessary for our well-being. Our capacity to do both is what makes us beautifully human.

How do you find hope and maintain balance during challenging times? Let’s share and support each other as we navigate these times.

Accelerated Learning
Receiving more detailed instruction means you may “progress” at a quicker rate in whatever way that is relevant to your practice.

Adaptable for Everyone
No matter what your skill level or abilities, your instructor will adapt your private sessions to meet you where you’re at so you can get the most out of your time together.

Physical Benefits for Recovery
Yoga and Pilates are great for helping with recovery from a sports injury (as long as you get clearance from your Physical Therapist and/or Doctor to add these to your routine).
