Trauma-Informed Yoga Class
w/ Spiridoula Politis at Revolution Community Yoga and Fitness in Acton, Massachusetts
Select Saturdays @ 1:30 – 2:30pm in the RCY Loft
Trauma-specific yoga focuses on developing the connection between mind and body while also regulating the nervous system. We increase interoception through grounding, sensing, breath, and mindful movement, thereby facilitating a feeling of calm and safety in one’s own body.
Trauma Informed yoga differs from a traditional yoga class in that the focus is on orienting, increasing proprioception and interoception, and encouraging choice in the individual. Often times after a traumatic event, the victim may find that they have disconnected from their body as they no longer feel safe, or they find that feeling sensations can be triggering. In addition, traumatic events often place the victim in a state of disempowerment. Trauma Informed yoga aims to help people reconnect with their bodies and find safety within while empowering them to make choices about themselves and their bodies. It also regulates the nervous system and builds neurological and emotional resilience.
Please wear comfortable clothing and feel free to bring a favorite blanket or shawl.
