Revolution Community Yoga’s Story
Back in 2013, Kyra Marino (RCY’s current owner) was attending yoga classes at Revolution Community Yoga + Acupuncture in a small room in the back of 537 Massachusetts Avenue. A friend had told her about the studio, and it quickly became her “home studio”. This hidden gem became her oasis and safe space for developing her own yoga practice, both physically and spiritually.
One day Kyra arrived to take class only to find the door locked and the lights off. Panic set in! Afraid that her home studio was shutting down, she reached out to a teacher she knew from the studio. This teacher helped connect her with the owner at the time, Paula Blanchard. Kyra reached out to Paula to say “I’m here if you need help with anything at the business. I love your studio so much!”
Long story short… about a million text messages and meetings later, Kyra took over ownership of Revolution Community Yoga. Paula moved her community acupuncture business to nearby Littleton.
Kyra had no idea what she was doing 🙂 It was through sheer will, endless enthusiasm, and heartfelt determination that she worked to keep this very special yoga studio up and running in Acton!
The instructors were and are the heart and soul of RCY. This magnificent group of humans give their best to every student in every class. The studio would not still be around without these talented and caring teachers!
10 years later, Revolution Community Yoga added “and Fitness” to their title. RCY now offers not only Yoga but Barre, Pilates, Yoga Philosophy, Ayurveda, Sound Healing and much more. RCY has become a 4-room studio with a vibrant and dedicated community! It was and is Kyra’s intention to grow RCY into a welcoming and inclusive hub for all things yoga and wellness.
Through weekly classes, workshops, series, and special events, this community has grown and flourished beyond what Kyra could have imaged back in 2013. It is the outstanding teachers and dedicated students that have made RCY such a very special and sacred place for so many folks in Acton and beyond.
Revolution Community Yoga’s Mission
Revolution Community Yoga’s mission and top priority is to guide its members through safe and mindful yoga and wellness practices in a non-competitive and supportive environment. We know that walking into a Yoga studio can feel intimidating at first. Our welcoming and caring teachers are committed to helping every student feel comfortable and right at home. In an RCY class, we always support you to meet your body and mind exactly where they are at on any given day.
RCY strives to honor and shed light on the roots of Yoga by bringing awareness to its history and traditions. This includes Patanjali’s Eight Limbed Path and the Yoga Sutras. Without this context, a physical yoga asana class is just exercise. There is so much more to Yoga than the physical aspects. We want to bring attention to all eight limbs of Yoga Philosophy – the physical practice (asana) is just one!
