About 20 years ago I attended my first yoga class with my mother. I thought I was looking for a different type of exercise, but what I found was so much more. I found something that provided for not only my physical wellness, but my mental wellness, as well. Over the years, I have been reliant on the moving meditation I find in yoga to help with taming anxiety and stress. After partaking in the RCY 200-hour teacher certification class, much of my focus as a teacher has shifted to the importance of the breath and mindfulness emphasized through the philosophy of yoga. As a long-time teacher of literature, and now of elementary age children, I find that I practice yoga both on the mat and off the mat. I am committed to helping others, both children and adults alike, to feel confident using breathing techniques, mindfulness skills, and the peace one finds in challenging physical work to quiet their own nervous systems and bring yoga into their own daily lives.
