This hatha class is instructed by and for LGBTQ+-identified folks, with the intention of building resilience in affirming queer community. In our asana practice we will embody a sense of playfulness as we get curious about what it’s like to be in our queer bodies, agency as we make choices about what asanas work for us, and bravery as we choose to vulnerably be present as we are in community. Your whole self is welcome in this class, exactly as you are today.
Alex Flores
As a yoga teacher, social justice advocate, educator, and non-binary trans man, Alex’s work is to create inclusive community-oriented spaces for marginalized identities to shine authentically in their practice. As a social justice advocate, his language throughout practice weaves in contemplations on the divinity of all beings everywhere. As a longtime yogi, Alex found his way to teaching on the mat when he recognized in himself a need to foster self-love – particularly around his LGBTQIA+ identities. The mat became a place where he could be grounded and present in his ever-changing body, without judgement.
Alex’s teacher training is rooted in breath-based Hatha Yoga, bringing a meditative-like quality to his practice. He completed his 200-hour training with the Master Team of Akasha Yoga Academy, based in Bali, Indonesia. His training with that team is on-going as he works to complete his 300-hour training. Alex’s vinyasa style is influenced heavily by his mentor and good friend, Master Teacher Chandra Cantor, who he has studied under both formally and informally.
When not on the mat, Alex is a parent, family member (including chosen family!), first and second grade teacher, summer camp director, and nature enthusiast. He can be found catching critters and engaging in outdoor recreation in the summer months and weightlifting indoors during the winter months.”
