What To Expect If You’re New To Yoga

Never tried Yoga before? That’s okay! We still want to see you!

RCY primarily offers all level classes so our teachers are used to making people just like you feel comfortable. We are community based and are about building relationships, not seeing who can do the best down dog! (That’s one of the poses, just so you know.) More than anything, we want to see you listening and taking care of your body – so no matter what kind of stamina, strength or flexibility you have, you are invited to come, to do what you can, and take a break whenever you need.

Yes, it may take some time to learn some of the pose names but we always say them in English (if we say them in Sanskrit) and you can always look around to see what’s going on.

You may have heard yoga is relaxing – this is usually true after you’ve been practicing for a little bit. Yoga can be surprisingly mentally challenging for beginners as it invites you to pay attention – a lot. Kind of like meditation. It can be frustrating at first. We understand that and want to help you over those first few classes – so please tell us about your experiences…. we might have some good advice!

Hope to see you on the mat!
